A cast of local talented actors and other brilliant, gifted actors bring the story to life wearing authentic costumes and acting on realistic sets. The outdoor performance takes the audience into what the world of Keller's must have felt like before and after the pivotal moment when she understands words have meaning. The performance is produced by the Helen Keller foundation, Inc., which is a non-profit organization. "The Miracle Worker", a playwright by William Gibson's is performed outdoors at the birthplace of Helen Keller known as "America's First Lady of Courage. From that moment forward objects had meaning.įor a few chosen weekends from early June through mid July this epic drama comes alive on the grounds of Ivy Green. Suddenly, Helen put it all together and finally understood her first word. As the water flowed, Annie signed the word water over and over in to Helen's hands. Helen held the mug under the pump, Annie filled it and water flowed over Helen's hands. On April 5, 1887, Annie Sullivan lead young Helen Keller to the water pump outside.
